There are some very important rules in grooming powder puff:
- NEVER comb out a dry coat as that damages the coat by causing the
hair to split
- NEVER use human products
- ALWAYS bath and condition with adequate moisturising shampoo
and a quality conditioner (for long coats)
- bath weekly
- (oil between shows which keeps coat from 'drying out')
BRUSHING:
- ALWAYS brush wet coat (use special products for brusching)
- mist spray lightly onto the hair from a height of about 10-12
inches
- wait for a couple of minutes (f.eg. 2 minutes) and brush
MANAGING WITH TANGLES OR MATS:
- mist adequate spray into the mat or tangle from a height of about
10-12 inches
- work in well with your fingers
- start at the edges of the mat and gently pull apart working
gradually towards center
BATHING:
- bath weekly
- dilute products in a jug of warm water before use
- NEVER swoosh the hair round while bathing as this causes mats,do
not rub or scrub
- always squeeze the shampoo mixture thru the hair do not rub or
scrub
- gently squeeze the excess water out of the coat apply the
conditioner and rinse
- wrap the dog in thirsty towels and blot the coat well
- blow dryer set on warm or cool, never hot
- always brush in the direction the hair grows
CLIPPING:
- use a #40 blade and clip the same as for a poodle face
- clean around the anus with the blade just the hair immediately
around it to prevent little cling ons
OTHER:
- check the ears canals for excess hair that can be gently removed
with finger and thumb
- trim the hair under feet around the pads
- trim nails
