Grooming Powder Puff

 

There are some very important rules in grooming powder puff:
  • NEVER comb out a dry coat as that damages the coat by causing the hair to split
  • NEVER use human products 
  • ALWAYS bath and condition with adequate  moisturising shampoo and a quality conditioner (for long coats) 
  • bath weekly
  • (oil between shows which keeps coat from 'drying out')

BRUSHING:

  • ALWAYS brush wet coat (use special products for brusching)
  • mist spray lightly onto the hair from a height of about 10-12 inches
  • wait for a couple of minutes (f.eg. 2 minutes) and brush

MANAGING WITH TANGLES OR MATS:

  • mist adequate spray into the mat or tangle from a height of about 10-12 inches
  • work in well with your fingers
  • start at the edges of the mat and gently pull apart working gradually towards center

BATHING:

  • bath weekly
  • dilute products in a jug of warm water before use
  • NEVER swoosh the hair round while bathing as this causes mats,do not rub or scrub
  • always squeeze the shampoo mixture thru the hair do not rub or scrub
  • gently squeeze the excess water out of the coat  apply the conditioner and rinse
  • wrap the dog in thirsty towels and blot the coat well
  • blow dryer set on warm or cool, never hot
  • always brush in the direction the hair grows

CLIPPING:

  • use a #40 blade and clip the same as for a poodle face
  • clean around the anus with the blade just the hair immediately around it to prevent little cling ons

OTHER:

  • check the ears canals for excess hair that can be gently removed with finger and thumb
  • trim the hair under feet around the pads  
  • trim nails
